In this workshop we will take a deep dive into learning about the technique called piercing. Cutting out shapes and lines within the metal with a saw blade, as if it were a pencil drawing a design. This skill takes practice and patience to master. Once learned it will take your designs to the next level! Students will be using a variety of fabrication skills including drilling, piercing, sawing, filing, and soldering. Walk away with a lovely pendant. Learn the basics of anticlastic raising, which involves manipulating the metal to create saddle-like, ruffled and organic forms. In this class, students will learn to raise pre-cut metal blanks on sinusoidal metal stakes using Delrin mallets designed for this task. At the end of this class, students will have completed a small pendant or metal sculpture. It is encouraged that students have a core understanding of beginning metalsmithing basics.
